• GED (General Educational Development)/
    High School Equivalency

    The focus of the GED program is to prepare students to pass the new computer-based GED test. Preparation to complete the GED test includes problem-solving skills in the subject areas of Language Arts Reading, Language Arts Writing, Social Studies, Science and Mathematics. Classroom instruction is supplemented by computer-assisted instruction with a GED interactive computer program. The GED Exam is a series of tests in Writing Skills, Social Studies, Science, Reading and Mathematics.

    • It is given both English and Spanish.
    • All students take a placement test to determine their appropriate class level.
    • Classes are available at all levels.
    • You are eligible to take the official State GED Exam if you are 17 or 18 years of age and officially withdrawn from school for at least 6 months. If you are 17 years old, you must submit a withdrawal form signed by a parent or guardian.
    • Those who pass the GED test are awarded a Connecticut State High School Diploma.
    • Day classes are held at the Adult Learning Center located at 418 Kossuth Street, Monday-Thursday, and evening classes are held at Central High School, Monday-Thursday.

    Designed for those students who need additional help in Writing and Math. This class is offered by appointment and space is limited.

    ANYONE REGISTERING FOR THE GED EXAM MUST SHOW PROOF THAT THEY HAVE PASSED ALL 4 PRACTICE TESTS.

    YOU MUST HAVE A COPY OF THE SCORES PRIOR TO REGISTERING FOR THE GED EXAM.
