•    Ms. Silano's 7th Grade English Language Arts                 (Literacy & Written Expression) 

                     Course Content & Expectations

    - Students will study grammar within the context of their own writing by exploring the function and purpose of the eight parts of speech.

    - Students will be exposed to the four genres of writing. (EXPOSITORY -PERSUASIVE- DESCRIPTIVE - NARRATIVE)

    -  Students will study all the major genres of literature. (GENRES RANGING FROM FICTION TO POETRY)

    - Students will become familiar with the function and purpose of Writer's Workshop and the writing process.

    HOMEWORK POLICY

    Students receive either a five or a zero for inspected homework assignments. A homework grade of five is only given to fully completed homework assignments. A homework grade of zero is given to students who submit incomplete or no homework for a particular assignment. NO PARTIAL CREDIT IS GIVEN FOR INCOMPLETE HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS!  IT'S ALL OR NOTHING!

    AFTER SCHOOL HELP

    After school help will be offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:00 to 3:30 in room 105. Your child must bring in a note granting him or her permission to attend each extra help session. Also, your child must have prearranged transportation prior to attending an extra help session.

    REQUIRED MATERIALS

    1 three subject notebook (VOCABULARY- LITERATURE - ENGLISH)

    1 Mead composition notebook for Writer's Workshop

    4 folders in a binder (WRITER'S WORKSHOP- ENGLISH- VOCABULARY - LITERATURE)( NOT REQUIRED BUT RECOMMENDED)

    1 pocket sized dictionary

    1 red pen for correcting
