    GREAT EXPECTIONS FOR FIRST GRADE

    Dear Parents,

There are a few things I wanted to share with you as we begin the school year that I feel are important for you to know right from the start so we are all on the same page.

Attendance is an important part of your child’s education.  I want you to be aware that 3 tardies = 1 absence.  Also taking your child out of school early MUST be approved by Mrs. Walker-Jones

Behavior is a very important component to the learning process.  In class we have a “stop light” behavior system.  Green – all is well, move to yellow – lose time off of recess, red – loss of recess and note or phone call home to parent.  If behavior is severe your child will be sent to the principal with an anecdotal that will be put in their cumulative folder.  Please reinforce positive behavior for school – respect each other and the teacher, raise your hand to speak and wait to be called on and also know when it is appropriate to speak and when not to – especially during instructional time.  This reinforcement and consistency from you helps us all to be successful.  Most Friday’s – if the class has earned it – I bring in a special treat/reward for the children.

Please get to school on time and wait in the back lot in our line.  No one is allowed in the halls before school begins.  If there is inclement weather you will be able to wait in the cafeteria. The breakfast program begins at 8:40 and ends at 8:50 with breakfast being served in the classroom.  Please check your child’s backpack daily as there will be homework and possibly important notices that need your attention.  Also, please make sure your child comes to school prepared; pencils, folder and homework ready to be handed in.

I would like to thank you in advance for all of your help and support in the upcoming year.  Your involvement in your child’s education means the world to them and they do appreciate it as much as I do.  If you ever have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me by note or by phone at 275-2253.  Together we can make a difference.

                                                         Thank you again.

                                                          Sincerely,

                                                           Mrs. Henry
