• Lottery Process and Timeline

    Discovery's enrollment consists of 70% students from Bridgeport and 30% from the surrounding communities. 

    Participating districts include: Easton, Fairfield, Shelton, Monroe, Milford, Stratford and Trumbull.

    Entrance to the school is by electronic application and lottery.

     

    Lottery Applications for 2024-2025 School Year opens: Monday, January 8th 

    Lottery Application closes: Friday, February 23, 2024

    • Applications are available online only.
    • Bridgeport residents with students in grades K-8 are eligible to apply for all six of the Elementary Magnet Schools. (Separate application for each school and each child)
    • Current Discovery students do not need to reapply.
    • If you are applying for a sibling of a current Discovery student, you must note the name of the current Discovery student on your application.

     

    Parents and Guardians of Preschool Children,

    Beginning in the 2018-2019 school year, Discovery Magnet will charge a parent fee for every child in the preschool program.  The fees are calculated using the CT Office of Early Childhood sliding fee scale.  Fees are determined by family size and income.  Fees collected will be used to support the Pre-K programs and provide needed materials and supplies for the classrooms.

    All parents or guardians of incoming Pre-K students and enrolled Pre-K 4 will have to submit one of the following: 

    • 3 current and consecutive paystubs for both parents or guardians

    OR

    • Your tax return

    The lottery for entrance into Interdistrict Discovery Magnet School should be available online in January of the year prior to wished enrollment. Online applications are available. Please go to  https://bpslotterybridgeportedu.schoolmint.com and follow the guidelines below:

    Click on the Elementary Schools tab; and select Discovery Magnet School and select the blue tab on the right-hand margin; “Click here to apply”. ALL applications should be completed and submitted electronically by the date indicated on the application.

    *Please note: If you have a child who already attends The Discovery Magnet School, and have a sibling you would like to attend, they too must enter through the lottery. Priority admission will be granted to applicants with a sibling(s) currently attending the Interdistrict Discovery Magnet School, however it is not an automatic entry. Within the context of this policy, siblings are defined as children who reside in the same household with a common parent or legal guardian in accordance with the Interdistrict Discovery Grant language. Please be sure to complete the sibling section of the lottery should this apply to you.
