The building was named the Luis Muñoz Marín School in recognition of Luis Muñoz Marín, born on February 18, 1898. He was the son of Luis Muñoz Rivera, Puerto Rico's Resident Commissioner in Washington. Luis Muñoz Marín was educated in the United States, where he studied law and journalism. In 1948, when the people of Puerto Rico elected their first governor, Luis Muñoz Marín won the office by an overwhelming margin, and was re-elected in 1952, 1956, and 1960. The school was dedicated on May 3, 1992, to honor his achievements. Luis Muñoz Marín serves as a guiding star for students to strive to meet their goals.
