The Bridgeport Board of Education is committed to working with students and their families to promote regular attendance, which, in turn, encourages personal growth by preparing the student to accept similar responsibilities in the world outside of the school setting. The attendance regulations are designed to help students to understand that the benefits of regular attendance will be gained through responsibility and commitment.
Students in pre-K through 8 noted to have had 10 unexcused absences will be referred to the scientific research-based interventions committe (SRBI). Students are mandated by the Connecticut legislature to have no more than 20 unexcused absences in any school year. Students who exceed that number shall be referred to Juvenile Court as required by state law. In addition, parents of those students with more than 20 unexcused absences may be referred to the Department of Children and Families (DCF) fo educational neglect.
