Ms. Strulson’s Enrichment Classes
It is wonderful to be back and working with the students in grades 3-7! The creative journey we have taken over the past month has been educational and rewarding for everyone J.
The 3rd graders in Ms. Quinn’s class are “roaring” with information as they are in the final stage of their animal research project. Each student composed an informational essay using multiple sources on their chosen animal. They will be using their final projects, painted cut-out masks, to present their information live during a classroom wax museum!!
Additionally, Mrs. Papp’s students have been analyzing various sources to create essays. They have become quite skilled at composing informational essays that keep the reader interested and eager to learn more on a topic. Both third grade classes are also exploring fractions through hands-on centers and cooperative learning.
The 4th grade enrichment groups are reading Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbittand crafting their own scenes to perform from the story. It is wonderful to witness their dramatic interpretations of the characters’ feelings and points of view.
Why is it important to vote? The 5th grade enrichment group can certainly answer that question! They recently entered a contest in which they wrote a 500 word essay describing this importance to commemorate the 50thanniversary of the Voting Rights Act.
The sixth graders in Mrs. Tarnowski’s class are also exploring law but from a different angle! They have been working on argumentative essays, in which they must defend their views on a given topic. I think a career in law or politics is a big possibility for many students in this bunch!
The 7th grade math enrichment students are continuing to study and analyze the stock market. Recently they were given the task of analyzing two competing companies. They must determine which would be the more lucrative stock from an investment standpoint and defend their reasoning using historical market trends and data.
And last but not least, the 7th grade study hall group is exploring film production! The students have created a script that they are acting out, filming, and editing using imovie. Move over Sandra Bullock and Martin Scorcese….these students might just be the next Academy Award nominees J.
