    Hello Bridgeport Public Schools,

As we begin to see the first signs of inclement weather, I know many of you are asking yourselves “How will snow days be handled this year?” For the 2021-22 school year, weather-related school closings will be a day off from school. The Connecticut State Department of Education will not allow for remote learning due to weather-related school cancellations. Each weather-related school closing will add an additional day to the end of the school calendar as it had prior to the pandemic.

Please know there is a lot of work that factors into the decision of calling a weather-related school closing with the safety of all students and staff as our first priority. Some of those steps include:

    • Consultation with a local meteorologist who specializes in municipal and school weather related decisions
    • Consultation with the Bridgeport Department of Public Works and the Bridgeport Police Department about road conditions and potential power outages
    • Discussions with the Board of Education Facilities Department on the conditions of our school campuses
    • An early morning conference call with local area Superintendents to discuss opening/closing and delays being considered around the immediate area

When a delay/early dismissal/closure is decided upon, we will send out information to you via ParentSquare and post it to our district website. We also share the information with local television/radio stations for them to share with the public. Please make sure that your contact information is up to date in PowerSchool to ensure you receive all district notifications, including weather-related closings/delays.
